The Hidden Image Revealed

The image is a map of the country Laos (the beige areas in the "inner" corners of the square).

These four stamps issued by the (then) Kingdom of Laos in 1963 are pieces of a puzzle which, when placed in the right order display a map of the kingdom in the background.

The designs for the four stamps show the

Royal Palace, Luang Prabang (Scott 95)
Buddha of Vat Pra Keo (Scott 93);
Ceremonial Cup and Horn (Scott 92)
People led by a soldier (Scott 94)

This last stamp reminds us that Laos, though "neutral and constitutional", in 1963 was being drawn into a wider Southeast Asian war.
