Q: Which of the actors listed was the third to play Charlie Chan?

Charlie Chan

Answer: Asians didn't start landing star roles in Hollywood until the arrival of Bruce Lee in the 1970s, so Roland Winters was the third European to play the Chinese detective.

Key Luke, however, played the bumbling but endearing "Number One Son", beginning with "Charlie Chan in Paris" (1935). Chan author Earl Derr Biggers got the idea for his detective during a vacation to Hawaii in 1919. Biggers wrote six Chan mysteries, all of which were filmed, with the exception of Keeper of the Keys (1932).
