Q: Match each detective with his first novel - Inspector Maigret

Inspector Maigret in George Simenon's "Pietr le Letton"Inspector Maigret (San Marino No. 949)

Answer: (c) Pietr-le-Leton

There is some controversy among scholars about the true chronology of French Inspector Maigret's appearance in print.

We do know that writer Georges Simenon first signed his name to the 1931 Maigret novel, Pietr-le-LetonThe Case of Peter the Lett), launching a fictional career that would cross four decades, making the pipe-smoking Maigret as long-lived a detective as his American counterpart, Ellery Queen.
