The Ana-Libri Press logo shows Ceres casting seed across the arid Atacama sands. Above her shine the Pleiades, mentioned thrice in the Old Testament as Kimah. The Inca of the Atacama and Andes revered the Pleiades as celestial protectresses of the grain. The image itself derives from a French stamp, wherein Ceres is cast as Marianne, a symbol of Liberty and Reason. Marianne is also a Gallic form of Ana Maria.
- For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. Zechariah 8:12
Ana Maria Gallo is a native of Arica, northernmost port-town in Chile and gateway to the earth's driest place, the great Atacama Desert. She now resides in Washington state, a considerably rainier climate.
Ana Maria studied at UCLA where she earned a BS degree in Physics and
completed graduate work in Structural Mechanics and Dynamics.
She was a devoted fan of Bruin basketball and appeared on Mr. John Wooden's
pre-game TV show during the Pac-10 heydays, where she remembers smiling quite
a bit. Like many
UCLA
graduates, she stays in touch and visits the campus when in town, if only to
take in the fresh eucalyptus scent in the air.
Prior to establishing Ana Libri Press, Ana Maria was for twenty-five years a full-fledged "Rocket Scientist". After her first job as an acoustics and vibration engineer on the B1 prototype, she participated as an engineer and manager on many many many successful domestic and international telecommunications satellite programs(*). You may even be using one of these satellites now: DirecTV, Navy UFO services, Galaxy, Solidaridad, and a bunch of others from the "early days".
(*) Hughes Space and Communications (HSC), was formed in 1961 as a subsidiary of the Hughes Aircraft Company (HAC) and was managed independently under the auspices of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Howard Hughes died intestate in 1976 and after protracted legal maneuverings, a board of trustees formed by the Delaware Chancery Court determined that HAC would be put up for sale. In 1985 HHMI sold HSC/HAC to General Motors, which renamed their acquisition Hughes Electronics Corporation (HEC). In January 2000, the satellite division was sold by GM to The Boeing Company (ticker BA). The former HSC/HAC/HEC was renamed Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS) and has subsequently reorganized as the Boeing Satellite Development Center, a business unit within what is today Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. North American Aircraft, original contractor for the B1, was itself bought by Rockwell International and recently integrated into the Boeing corporation. I find it humorous to have worked for two companies that today no longer exist and find myself now a former employee of a company I never worked for! I can only conclude it was all a dream.
