WOOD CARVER The long saw at the bottom right
and the tools arranged on the table before the craftsman are clues that
his location is the shop of a wood carver.The elaborate carvings of church
panels and stalls dates from the 13th century. About the same time, carvers
began to produce effigies and statues in wood as models for casters of bronze.
These artisans were considered specialist sculptors and were paid handsomely

20 sterling for making choir stalls for Bicester Priory, England, quite
a sum at the time. He was paid extra for carving the finials.The object
in the middle ground above the saw may be a medieval lathe.
